Qualification Recognition - Assessment process

The Prior Learning and Experience Assessment (P.L.E.A.) process assesses the knowledge and skills of internationally-educated midwives who want to register in Manitoba.

P.L.E.A. is open to midwives from a variety of backgrounds. You may have formal training or you may have learned midwifery through apprenticeship or self-directed study.

Note: An internationally-educated midwife must go through the P.L.E.A. process. The College of Midwives states: "P.L.E.A. is longer and more complex than a purely credential-based assessment model that only recognizes formal education credentials. P.L.E.A. is an assessment process only and does not offer any upgrading for candidates in areas where significant gaps in knowledge or skills are identified."
